Geoffrey Teece

Geoff grew up and went to school in Cheshire. He took a GCE ‘O’ level in Art but academic options prevented him from doing ‘A’ level. He trained as a school teacher at Worcester College of Education and taught in schools for sixteen years before working in a teachers’ centre and then at Birmingham University and subsequently Exeter University training Secondary teachers of Religious Education. Geoff has a PhD in Philosophy of Religion and an expertise in World Religions. He is the author of a number of books and numerous academic and professional articles.

In the 1990s Geoff undertook a beginners’ watercolour course where he learned some basic techniques but didn’t paint again until he moved to Topsham six years ago. He joined Topsham Art Group and was fortunate to attend a number of workshops and courses led by the renowned watercolourist John Hoar. It was with John that Geoff learned how to paint ‘pure’ watercolour; no body paint like gouache or other techniques. ‘Pure’ watercolour relies solely on the transparency of the paint and the white paper applied as quickly and as loosely as possible.
