Rachel Morley

Rachel is a felt maker and fine artist. Since 2005 she has been working in felt, a wonderful ancient textile which is hand-made from natural wool fibres – a complete change from her Fine Art Printmaking roots.

Felt making is Rachel’s passion and she loves the diversity it offers, exploring the combination of felt with other materials. Felt can be made in a variety of thicknesses and colours and combines beautifully with other fabrics, yarns and beading. There really are no limits! Her work is often based on colour, which attracted the attention of artenax, as well as her innovative, striking designs with spots and spirals.

Rachel’s inspiration comes from nature, the beautiful Scottish coastline and specifically pebbles and ferns and their lovely colours and forms. Recently she has been exploring the use of natural wool fibres and wool yarns from British breeds, and adding in some elements of colour with dyed merino wool fibres. Examples include felt bowls, doorstops, cubbyholes, cubby bowls and pebble bowls.
